A Program for Everyone: Your only real opponent is yourself! Our goal at James City Boxing Club is to emphasize the sport of Amateur Boxing. Members of the club are men and women that range in age from 14 to 60+. From the recreational novice to the aspiring competitor, no matter what your level or interest, you’ll find the appropriate challenge and reward at James City Boxing Club.

   Boxing Circuit

These sessions offer an energetic, high paced circuit class that incorporates classic training techniques of Boxing, including use of the heavy bags, double-ended bags, speed bag, striking mitts, and more.   This fun and intense workout offers many of the benefits of Boxing training by focusing on the aerobic and body toning aspects of the sport.

Sparring

Eventually, all members of James City Boxing Club may participate in full contact sparring once they have achieved an appropriate level of boxing proficiency. The choice to spar is completely up to each individual. Many people choose never to spar, enjoying the continuous benefits of non-contact training. Others take the challenge of full contact sparring and find it has its own unique rewards. However, in order to spar (or do sparring drills), an individual must be committed to achieving an appropriate level of skill and physical fitness. This requires a minimum of two sessions a week plus active participation in outside training and fitness regimens. If these requirements are met and at the discretion of the coach, members may spar and will be required to register with USA Boxing.

Open Gym is for those people interested in learning the sport of Boxing to a much finer degree and who want to practice contact sparring in the sport.    During these times, Personal coaching will be available to Open Gym Boxers (by scheduling) as well as sparring and sparring drill sessions with other Boxers.   Each Boxer will progress at his or her own speed and ability, and will learn to train as a competitive Boxer does.  A much greater focus is placed on developing techniques and skills through dedicated repetition of drills and exercises.  Open Gym Boxers are encouraged to make it in at least twice a week and must do so in order to spar.  Equipment provided
